Differentiating between real Black Friday home gym deals and clever marketing stunts isn’t easy in 2024. Learn how to tell the difference between a genuine good deal and an “offer” that doesn’t save you any money!
Black Friday shouldn’t really be a thing in the UK. But because the world is so influenced by the US, it is now a big thing for retailers everywhere. That is particularly true in the home gym world, where most retailers take their cues from the big US brands, such as Rep, Rogue and Titan.
The biggest British home gym equipment retailers are very small fish indeed when compared to the American firms. So they tend to follow their American counterparts’ actions down to the letter. And that explains why the very best gym gear sales of the UK calendar year almost unfailingly take place not in January, but on the American “retail holiday” of Black Friday.

As Coop from Garage Gym Reviews often says, Black Friday is THE big yearly sale period for home gym equipment in the US. There really are no others. And for the reasons above, UK firms tend to follow suit. Although you will find some January sale sections on Mirafit, Strength Shop, Wolverson and Fitness Superstore, most of these retailers save their big discounts for Black Friday.
But there’s an obvious catch any wily consumer will be able to foresee: Advertising firms get paid a lot of money to make it look like they are offering you a good deal. But in many cases, they’re not.
Here’s how to navigate Black Friday and walk away with genuine bargains – and how to avoid getting ripped off!

Tip #1: Avoid Black Friday Offers That Aren’t Actually Offers At All
Almost all retailers do this as Black Friday approaches. They merge their sale/outlet/discount menus with their special Black Friday menus. Items that were already on sale are marked as Black Friday discounts, making you think that it is all part of one big sale.
This can make it look like they’ve discounted a whole host of stuff, instead of what is more likely: a small handful of actual deals.
The trick here is to regularly check the sale/outlet/discount menus in the weeks and months before late November to see what is already on offer. That way, you will be able to see when genuine deals have been added.

Tip #2: Identify the Gear You Want to Go on Sale
Going into Black Friday with only a vague idea of whether you actually want or need to buy anything for your home gym is a bad idea. Remember that this is pretty much the only time of the year when equipment retailers all hold decent sales. Black Friday home gym deals are pretty much the only game in town.
Take screenshots of the equipment you want on the sites, or note down the prices in October. That way, you will be able to compare pre-sale prices to sale prices if the item does end up on offer.
For instance, if you are on the lookout for a new barbell, research prices beforehand and keep checking throughout the year. If you’re stubborn about the whole thing and have a few candidate bars in mind, you will probably get lucky eventually – and that could save you up to GBP100 on a high- to mid-range bar.
